Fall
The Dean Family
Members of Rogers County CHEF
We began home schooling two years ago. After our first child was born,
God started His work on us. At that time we only knew of one family
that home schooled.
A year later God moved us to Oklahoma from Texas. Since I had left
a public school teaching position in Texas, I thought it only natural
to substitute in the schools after we moved. Boy did God speak to us
during that time. With "inclusion" and all the other
"new" programs being funneled into the schools, we knew God
was calling us to teach our children with His program.
School days begin with Bible devotion followed by the Pledge of Allegence.
Next begins classroom academics. Our two children (ages 5 and 6) also
look forward to the numerous CHEF activities available. Their favorite is
roller skating, although they have greatly enjoyed the field trips to
the Tulsa Airport, RSU Nature Conservancy, National Guard Helicopter
Base, and fossil dig.
Though we have only taught two years, we can't imagine having rejected
our calling. It has been such a joy to hear our children read for the
first time, to see their eyes light up when they understood how a math
problem was to be worked, and to listen to them explain from a Christian
point of view why the world is what it is.
Our home schooling journey has some valleys (the days the children would
rather be outside playing or Momma has so many things on her agenda that
24 hours isn't quite enough). But we know if we will just stick with the
commitment that we made to God that He will be that chain that pulls us
back on top of that hilltop as we continue our journey.
